Apple iPhone X: All you need to know!
Apart from the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, Apple also announces the iPhone X (Ten) during the media event today. This makes a total of 3 models of iPhone for this year.
Super Retina Display
The first thing that you’ll notice for the iPhone X is the Super Retina Display. The 5.8-inch OLED panel covers almost the whole screen except for the top sensor array. The OLED panel supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and Infinite contrast ratio. In order to incorporate the new display design, Apple has completely dropped the Touch ID home button and replace it with the sophisticated Face ID.
Glass Sandwich Design
Similar to the iPhone 8, the back panel is made out of glass in order to support QI wireless charging. Interestingly, the frame is made of surgical-class stainless steel instead of Apple’s regular aerospace-grade aluminium alloy. And yes, it is IP67-rated water and dust resistant.
QI Wireless Charging
Just like the iPhone 8, the glass back enables the iPhone X to support QI Wireless charging. That means the new iPhone X will work with all the current available QI wireless chargers! Apple also introduces the AirPower mat (available 2018) that is capable of simultaneously charging your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods (require optional charging case).
True Depth Camera
Since Apple has dropped the Touch ID authentication from the iPhone X, a new technology is required in order to support the new Face ID authentication. The tiny space at the earpiece area houses the most sophisticated sensors and cameras just to support the facial mapping algorithm.
Face ID
Face ID, enabled by the TrueDepth camera, it is capable of projecting over 30,000 invisible dots onto our face in order to create a precise depth map of our face. In layman’s terms, the new Face ID will be able to differentiate whether if the person is real or a printed 2D image.
Animoji
The TrueDepth camera also analyses more than 50 different muscle movements in order to mirror your face expression into 12 different Animojis. Yes, you read that right, by combining animation and emoji, “Animoji” is born.
Intuitive Gestures
At the point, many of you would be asking how to navigate around the iOS since the home button has been eliminated by Apple? The answer is by gestures! Swiping up from the bottom will take you home while swiping up and hold will enable the multitasking screen.
Dual 12 MP Cameras with Dual OIS
The dual camera on the iPhone X comes with the all new 12 MP sensors. While the setup is mostly similar with the iPhone 8 Plus – standard angle lens and telephoto lens, what set the iPhone X apart is the inclusion of Dual OIS. The telephoto lens also comes with a better lens with f/2.4 aperture instead of the iPhone 8’s f/2.8 aperture.
Apple A11 Bionic
The new A11 Bionic Hexa Core CPU is a lot faster than the A10 Fusion while offering great power efficiency. Apple also claims that even with a larger display, the iPhone X is capable of lasting 2 hours longer than iPhone 7.
The Apple-designed three-core GPU is 30% faster than the A10 Fusion. It also features a dedicated neural processing unit for the AI and machine learning algorithms. It helps the Face ID to adapt to physical changes in your appearance over time.
Augmented Reality
The new chipset combined with the dual camera and wide array of sensors enables the iPhone X to support a variety of Augmented Reality apps, which includes games and much more features.
iOS 11
And, of course, the new iOS 11 which is the most advanced, intuitive and secure mobile operating system. Getting to apps in Messages with fewer taps. Create new Live Photo effects. And discover new music with friends in Apple Music.
