Apple Listened! 16-inch MacBook Pro
3 min readAfter a 4-year disastrous Macbook Pro lineup, Apple has finally woken up and deliver what every company should have done, giving customers what they want. The 2016 lineup has been no less disappointing to its consumers with its problematic butterfly keyboard, thermal throttling, and questionable graphics options. Although the 15-inch version has the Vega 16 and Vega 20 option for the 2018 Macbook Pro later in the year, Apple did a crappy move introducing the option just 3 months after the 2018 refresh to their loyal users.
With NVIDIA introducing RTX Series GPU into laptops, Apple’s choices of keeping the lower-powered Radeon GPU seems almost laughable considering the prices of both the laptops are almost similar but with the performance of the RTX Series leaving the Macbook Pro in the dust. During this point, prosumers shifted operating systems to Windows and it is hardly justifiable spending a fortune on a Macbook Pro.
Although the 2018 15-inch Macbook Pro finally looked like it fixed the lack of graphic’s strength with the Vega option, it created another problem with the thermal throttling with the Intel i9 CPU. A few months later, they fixed it with an update but it hardly justifies the extra cost for a 6-core Intel Core i9 CPU with a roughly 8% increase in performance compared to the 6-core i7.
In the mid-2019 refresh, we see a slight performance bump with the 8-core i9 CPU, thanks to intel. However, the Macbook Pro still fails to provide what the power users really want, more power. A better cooling performance in the refresh and the same GPU options are just not enough to pull the ex-MacOS users back from windows laptops such as Razer, Asus and others.
Finally, we get to late 2019, where we are now. It finally feels like Apple listened. It seems like Apple realized how much they screwed up prioritizing form over functionality where they really shouldn’t be, especially with the prosumers who rely heavily on these machines. The 16-inch Macbook Pro features a slightly thicker body than the 15-inch, brought back the scissor-switch keyboard mechanism, bigger vents, better heat pipes, better speakers and powerful GPU options. The GPU base model of the 16-inch has been tested to perform even better than the Vega 20 model. However, there’s still no SD Card slot, which creators normally uses.
With Apple finally putting their ears to the right place, they finally released a good product in 4 years. With the release of the iPhone 11, the 13-inch Macbook Pro refresh, Airpods Pro, and the Mac Pro, Apple has finally gotten back their reputation for good, reliable products. After years of acting like Apple doesn’t care, it seems like they have finally woken up and realized, the customer is always right.
