Arm introduces Total Compute Solutions 2023 with brand new CPU and GPU models that is faster and more efficient
2 min readArm, as part of their Day 0 showcase at COMPUTEX 2023, has revealed their highly anticipated Total Compute Solutions 2023 (TCS23), which takes the spotlight in their keynote presentation.
This new portfolio encompasses both hardware and software offerings, so let’s explore what they have in store.
Starting with the CPU, the upcoming 4th generation Cortex-X cores are set to be the most advanced yet. These cores boast a remarkable 15% increase in performance while achieving a remarkable 40% boost in efficiency. This significant leap is made possible through the utilization of TSMC’s groundbreaking N3E fabrication process, making it the industry’s first of its kind.
The renowned big.LITTLE Architecture welcomes two new additions to its lineup: the Cortex-A720 and Cortex-A520 cores. Across the board, there is an average efficiency improvement of 20%.
The A720 excels at handling demanding tasks with its high boost clocks, while the A520 excels at conserving energy for lighter tasks.
Turning to the GPU, Arm introduces the Arm Immortalist-G720, a graphics solution designed specifically for gaming. Packed with cutting-edge graphics technology, such as Ray Tracing, the GPU delivers improved performance without compromising on quality. Notably, the introduction of Deferred Vertex Shading (DVS) brings meaningful enhancements to dataflow.
During the presentation, Arm mentioned that popular games like Genshin Impact and Fortnite are already taking advantage of these advancements. However, the true performance impact remains to be seen and tested.
On the software front, AI, particularly Generative AI, takes center stage in the IT world for 2023. While popular tools like ChatGPT and Bard are typically cloud-based, Arm aims to bring these capabilities to local processing through Arm NN and Arm Compute Library. Currently, Google’s apps are utilizing these tools, but soon other third-party app developers will be able to tap into their power.
Lastly, Arm teased a glimpse of what’s to come in TCS24 which is the upcoming Blackhawk CPU and Krake GPU, providing a glimpse into the future of Arm’s technology roadmap.
