Software & Features
ZenUI 4 & Android 7.1
When I turned on the ZenFone 4 Max Pro for the very first time, the notification shade’s UI tipped me off. I thought the phone was still running on ZenUI 3. As I would recall correctly, the ZenUI 4 should come by default with all the ZenFone 4 models. Upon checking the software version, it is indeed running the latest ZenUI 4 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat. For some reason, ASUS has decided to use a different interface for the Max series.
What really saddens me is that many ZenUI features are missing from the ZenFone 4 Max Pro. Gone are the useful features such as Twin App and ZenMotion, what’s left is the recent apps key and Game Genie.
Nonetheless, I appreciate that the new ZenUI has lesser bloatware than ever. That alone has made the setup process and user experience a lot better.
