DJI Mavic 2 Pro & Mavic 2 Zoom Comes to Malaysia
Da-Jiang Innovations, or commonly known as DJI, is the world’s renowned brand in civilian drone and aerial imaging technology. Introduced today to Malaysians are the new DJI Mavic 2 Pro with an integrated Hasselblad camera and Mavic 2 Zoom with optical zoom capability.
DJI Mavic 2 Pro
In partnership with Hasselblad, the Mavic 2 Pro is the world’s first drone with integrated Hasselblad camera. Just in case you don’t know, Hasselblad is a world leader in medium format photography. The 1-inch CMOS sensor supports 10-bit Dlog-M colour profile and capable of capturing four times as many levels of colour per channel compared to the previous generation Mavic Pro.
It can capture 20-megapixel shots with the best colour accuracy using the Hasselblad’s Natural Colour Solution (HNCS) technology. The aperture is also adjustable from f/2.8-f/11 that provides more control across a wide variety of lighting conditions.
DJI Mavic 2 Zoom
As for the Mavic 2 Zoom, just as the name suggests, it has an optical zoom lens on it. The 24-48mm zoom lens provides a dynamic perspective that allows the storyteller to work on creative storytelling. The 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor is capable of shooting 12-megapixel photos and with the new Super Resolution feature, nine photos can be stitched together to create a highly detailed 48-megapixel image.
Exclusive to the Mavic 2 Zoom is the new Dolly Zoom QuickShot mode. It is a cinematography technique that has been around for ages yet takes a lot of practice to professionally execute it in real life. With DJI’s QuickShot mode, even non-professionals like us can produce otherworldly looking video scene.
4K H.265 Codec & Enhanced High Dynamic Range
Both cameras are capable of capturing 4K UHD video at a maximum 100 Mbps using the H.265 compression codec. Photographers will also benefit from the Mavic 2 Pro’s 14-stops of dynamic range and Mavic 2 Zoom’s 13-stops of dynamic range.
New Intelligent Tools
Apart from the new QuickShot modes, another newly introduced feature is the Hyperlapse function where it users can re-create a video that showcases the passing of time. Combined with a specific move set, easily this is one of the most user-friendly drones for content creators.
ActiveTrack 2.0, Improved APAS & OcuSync 2.0
The updated subject tracking function can autonomously track the subject and perform obstacle avoidance which we have never seen before. Even when the subject goes behind an obstacle, the system would predict the subject’s location and keep the camera rolling.
The improved Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) utilises the 10 sensors on all sides of the aircraft to detect obstacles and navigate around safely.
OcuSync 2.0 is a huge jump from its predecessor where the new transmission system enables a more stable connection between the drone and the remote control. It automatically switches between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency bands for the best transmission. It delivers 1080p video feed at a distance up to 8 KM away.
Extended Flight Time
So how about the battery life after having all those fancy features and mindblowing performance? With the redesigned aerodynamic airframe, the 19% reduction in drag allows the drone to boost up to 72 KM/h in sport mode. The rotors and propellers also has been redesigned and the maximum flight time per charge is up to 31 minutes. That is really impressive.
