Performance & Battery Life

Kirin 960, 6 GB RAM & 64 GB storage

We are no stranger to HiSilicon Kirin 960. In fact, we have previously reviewed a few phones that come equipped with the same SoC, namely Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei P10 Plus.

Social media, gaming, multitasking runs extremely smooth on the phone without any hiccups. Just that the heat generated from the chip itself is considerably higher than the Qualcomm counterpart. The body of the phone would felt scorchingly hot during intense gaming or GPS navigation.

Battery Life

Packed with 4000 mAh battery, I’m expecting to have a good battery life except the result is rather mixed. Standby time is great, especially where I could get 16 hours unplugged with 20% battery remaining. Though the actual screen on time (SOT) is on the low side with somewhere around 5 hours. I’m expecting at least 6 hours of SOT for that battery capacity.

Huawei Super Charge?

Even if the phone claims to have fast charge, but it still takes 2 hours to charge from 10% to 90%. It makes me wonder if Huawei should revise their fast charge technology in order to catch up with the battery capacity.
