The Tech in a Lamborghini Urus
4 min readToday we saw the official premiere of the Lamborghini Urus in Malaysia. It is the first Super Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) by Automobile Lamborghini, and the event marks the first appearance of the Urus in Malaysia. It carves a new niche for the brand in the luxury segment, setting new benchmarks across performance, driving dynamics and design.
The Super SUV
The Urus was built upon a visionary approach that combines the Lamborghini DNA, the powerful Aventador and the aggressive Huracan, with the most versatile vehicle, the SUV. The end result is something unprecedented – truly a car worthy to be called a Super SUV.
It packs a 4.0-litre petrol V8 twin-turbo aluminium engine, first in a Lamborghini to have a twin turbo-charged. Delivering 650 hp at 6,000 rpm and red-lines at 6,800 rpm; the maximum torque of 850 Nm at 2,250-4500 rpm; At a curb weight lower than 2,200 kg, the Urus has a specific weight-to-power ratio at 3.38 kg/hp.
The Tech in a Lamborghini Urus
The Tamburo – Lamborghini Driving Dynamics Control
The Tamburo driving mode selector on the centre console controls all dynamic vehicle systems and allows the selection of driving dynamics according to surface conditions or drivers’ preference.
The STRADA mode adapts the car height to the speed of the vehicle to improve the overall ride comfort. In SPORTS mode, the Urus is lowered to ensure stability and precision at all speed. In CORSA mode, the vehicle is even more precise and performance oriented with a roll at a minimum. On top of the available modes, three new off-road modes – NEVE (snow), TERRA (off-road) and SABBIA (sand) are added to the selection.
For the very first time, the Lamborghini Urus has an electromechanical active roll stabilisation system. It ensures the maximum reduction of the roll angle on bumpy roads through active decoupling of the stabiliser halves.
The specially-tuned damping system incorporates new damper valves, continually adjusting to different driving conditions. It can also be adjusted to different driving modes through ANIMA or customised by the driver in EGO mode.
The Lamborghini Infotainment System III (LIS) and Connectivity
The core of the Lamborghini Urus Infotainment System is the two touchscreens above the centre “Tamburo” console. The upper screen is the key interface for entertainment, managing functions such as media, navigation, telephone and car status information. The lower screen provides a keyboard and hand-writing-compatible screen for inputting information and controlling functions such as climate control and seat heating. Besides, there are also other optional features include a TV tuner, DAB and CI card reader, a head-up display for rear seat entertainment.
It has voice control which is able to recognise natural-dialogue voice commands. It supports functions such as music, telephone calls or sends text messages. The phone holder compartment also comes with wireless charging.
The Lamborghini Smartphone Interface (LSI) supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Baidu-CarLife as standard. Of course, it also supports USB connections, Bluetooth media streaming and DVD player. The sound system is consists of eight speakers, driven by four channels comes as standard. A high-end Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound and 1,700-watt output can be specified, with 21 fully active speakers. Produced through a close collaboration between Lamborghini, Fraunhofer IIS, and HARMAN, the system creates an immersive, natural 3D sound experience for all Urus occupants, front and rear.
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
The Lamborghini Urus ADAS systems provide a comprehensive level of safety, security and driving assistance on level 2 (SAE scale). A High Beam Assistant automatically fades headlights in and out of high beam mode as required; front and rear parking sensors and cruise control comes as standard; as is an innovative PreCognition system preventing or mitigating a collision. Optional ADAS systems include traffic management systems, top-view camera and a trailer coupling mode.
