LG Rolls Out Support for Apple AirPlay 2 on its 2019 ThinQ AI TVs
LG Electronics has announced the support for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on its AI TVs starting from 25th July 2019. That makes LG the first global TV manufacturer to support the HomeKit system. The Apple features will be available through a firmware update for the 2019 LG OLED TVs, NanoCell TVs and the UHD TVs with ThinQ AI capability.
Apple AirPlay 2
If you don’t know what is the AirPlay 2 for, here’s a quick summary for you. Firstly, it allows you to stream content, including Dolby Vision titles from your iPhone, iPad or Mac directly to your TV set. Other than that, it allows you to stream your favourite movies and television programs from the Apple TV app and other video app and photos directly to your LG AI TVs. Not limiting to that, it’s users can also play Apple Podcasts, Apple Music and music from your library or other streaming services through your LG AI TV and other AirPlay 2 compatible speakers in your home.
Apple HomeKit
HomeKit, on the other hand, allows users to conveniently control their smart home with the Home app or through Siri on their Apple devices. Installing the Home app on your LG AI TV will enable you to access basic TV functions such as power, volume and source. The LG AI TVs can also be added to scenes or automation along with other HomeKit accessories.
Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit will start rolling out to owners of LG OLED, NanoCell, and UHD TV with ThinQ capabilities in more than 140 countries, starting this week with more updates over the weeks to follow.
