Camera App
The camera is fast and responsive thanks to the lightweight design. Apart from camera filters, you get all the essential shooting modes, including Pro mode, panorama, portrait, video, slow motion and time lapse.
Dual Camera?
The dual camera at the back is the combination of 16 megapixels wide-angle lens and 20 megapixels portrait lens. The wide angle lens has a larger aperture at f/1.7 while the portrait lens has an aperture of f/2.6. Looking at the specs of the camera, you’ll also notice that the focal length of the portrait lens is at 36mm which is only 1.5x of the wide angle lens. So why OnePlus is stating they have a 2x portrait lens?
Turns out, due to the limitation of the slim camera module, it is impossible to fit in a 48mm lens into it. Hence, they rely on software augmentation and digital zoom to work out the 2x zoom. So, whatever floats the boat, huh?
Image Quality
The focusing speed of PDAF may not be as fast as Dual Pixel AF, but it is sufficient for your everyday shots. Photos taken with the OnePlus 5 camera is nice and sharp. The auto white balance and exposure metering work relatively well that I rarely need to launch the pro mode to make the adjustments. ISO performance is great even at ISO2500 and still looks good for Facebook uploads.
