[Update 2018 April 21] – OPPO F7 128GB Price

OPPO fans rejoice as OPPO Malaysia today is officially announcing the latest addition to its F series, the OPPO F7. It is the latest Selfie Expert smartphone, powered by Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) in many of its operational features. Together with the Super Full Screen and upgraded multi-tasking software, the F7 offers consumers a better user experience without breaking the bank.

OPPO F7: What’s New?

I still vividly remember when OPPO Malaysia launches the OPPO F5 back in early November 2017. I mean, in less than 6 months and we already seeing a newer model hitting our shores. Now it does seem a little too rush, since the company still selling the OPPO R9s (released on 5 Jan 2017) and ignoring the existence of OPPO R11, R13 and R15.  Let’s dive deeper into this rabbit hole and discover what exactly OPPO Malaysia has on their plate.

Diving Deeper

First of all, is the upgrade in the chipset department. The Helio P60 is the first in the P-series to take up the “big” architecture within the octa-core package. Before this, the octa-core were consists of 2 sets of different A53 cores at different clock speeds. Now, by combining A73 and A53 cores, we should expect a bump in the performance department while keeping the efficiency level, especially with the newer 12nm fabrication process.

On top of that, the Helio P60 also comes with a special mobile APU that maximises the AI functionalities on the phone. The internal storage also received an upgrade to 64GB and 128GB. The previous 32GB storage option is no longer available. Take more selfies perhaps?

Then the front display also sports a notch as we continue the journey of maximising the display size. The 6.23-inch display has 19:9 aspect ratio and sports a Full HD+ (2280 * 1080) resolution. That is roughly 0.23-inch larger display than the F5. Surprisingly, the battery also being bumped up from 3,200 mAh to 3,400 mAh. While the 6% battery capacity increment doesn’t sound that ground-breaking, but hey I’ll take any extra battery life we could get.

Of course, as a Selfie Expert phone, the camera at the front has been upgraded to a 25-megapixel sensor. That should be the most pixel-dense front-shooter I’ve ever seen. Then again, weirdly enough, for a smartphone that put a tonne load of emphasizing on their front camera, for some reason the autofocus feature is still missing from the camera. Meanwhile, the rear camera will be retaining the same 16-megapixel sensor from the F5.

Another interesting upgrade for the OPPO F7 is that they finally upgraded to a SoC that supports faster LTE speeds and dual-band WiFi. So, bye 2.4GHz WiFi. The software running on the OPPO F7 will be the ColorOS 5.0, based on Android 8.1 Oreo. To be honest, software updates can be pushed to older phones as long as they are tested without having any critical issues. Then again, we’re still not sure when will OPPO release the update for F5 users which still running ColorOS 3.2 with Android 7.1 Nougat. Fingers crossed, I guess?

Pricing & Availability

The OPPO F7 (4GB + 64GB) will be selling at the SRP of RM 1,399. No news regarding the 6GB + 128GB variant for now but fret not as we will keep you guys updated as soon as possible. Pre-order starts on 16 April to 20 April. Users who place orders during this period will be entitled to receive free gifts worth RM 299.

The first sale shall take place at Sunway Pyramid shopping centre on 21st April.

UPDATE 2018 April 21 – In conjunction with the roadshow, OPPO Malaysia also announced the OPPO F7 128GB will be having the official price tag of RM 1,699. Pre-order starts from 23 April to 27 April 2018 at your nearest OPPO Concept Store, OPPO Official Website and all OPPO official sales points across Malaysia. Consumers can also visit OPPO e-commerce partners’ sites such as Lazada, 11street and Shopee or head to OPPO telco-partners’ stores (DiGi and Celcom) and OPPO partner stores, Senheng and senQ.
