Panasonic debuts its latest lightweight and compact full-frame mirrorless camera: the LUMIX S9

Panasonic has announced its brand-new LUMIX S9, the smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera in the LUMIX S Series; let’s find out what it has to offer.

Featuring a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and the latest engine, the LUMIX S9 captures detailed content with natural tones and includes PDAF for excellent subject tracking, as well as Active I.S. for reduced blurring from camera shake. It also offers in-camera color style adjustments with the REAL TIME LUT function via a new dedicated ‘LUT’ button. Plus, the new LUMIX Lab app allows users to create unique LUT color files on their smartphones to generate original, shareable stills and videos without post-production editing. On top of that, the LUMIX S9 introduces a new MP4 Lite recording format, alongside the capability of shooting Open Gate in 4:2:0 10 bit at 30p/25p. This format is optimized for smartphones and can be easily resized for social media using the LUMIX Lab app, streamlining the editing workflow for content creators.

Besides that, the brand has launched the LUMIX S 26mm F8 (S-R26) lens, which also sports a slim design for enhanced portability, maintaining high resolution and image quality. With a fixed 26mm focal length, F8 aperture, and manual focus, it is a pretty good choice for casual and creative shooting.

Also, there’s a LUMIX S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 lens that will be released soon as well. This versatile zoom lens covers focal lengths from 18mm to 40mm, with the closest shooting distance of 0.15m/0.49ft, making it suitable for a range of photography from landscapes to portraits.

Pricing and Availability

The new Panasonic LUMIX S9 is now open for pre-order at a price of RM7,599 for the DC-S9GA Body only, and RM8,999 for the DC-S9KGA and an R2060 Lens. The cameras pre-ordered through retail from 30th May to 30th June 2024 will come in the colors Jet Black and Dark Olive, whereas those pre-ordered from Lazada or Shopee from 6th to 30th June 2024 will be available in Jet Black and Crimson Red. In addition, all LUMIX S9 pre-orders will include freebies such as a SmallRig L-Shape Handle, a battery pack, and a 64GB SanDisk Extreme Pro SD Card.
