Software & Features

Zen UI 4 + Android 8 Oreo

When we first received the phone, it comes pre-loaded with the initial version of ASUS Zen UI 4 which is based on Android 7 Nougat. Just 2 weeks into the testing, we have received a surprise update notification where Android 8 Oreo is now ready. While we have to redo all the tests but at least we have a comparison of the experience before and after the update.

In terms of interface, little has changed except for a few refinement on the sharp edges. I literally mean that as most of the interface elements have changed from rectangular shape to rounded rectangles.

The settings list has drastically changed to consolidate most of the items into categories instead of laying all of them in a long list. I faced some difficulty to get used to this new listing, but upon closer inspection, the new arrangement actually makes sense.

ASUS Features

ASUS had plenty of preloaded features that comes with Zen UI 4, then again, at least they don’t run all the time to a point where it slows down the phone.
