Pure Android
ASUS ZenFones has always come with ZenUI pre-installed, which is basically ASUS’s own custom Android skin and features. Before ZenUI 4 was introduced, the skin is well known to be heavily bloated with unwanted features and apps. All those issues were then rectified with the release of ZenUI 4. Apart from that, ASUS also took in suggestions from the public to release a phone with pure vanilla Android OS, hence the release of ZenFone Max Pro (M1) without ZenUI.
In case you don’t know, pure Android is the most original Android OS straight from Google. Basically, you only get Google Apps such as Photos, Google Drive and others pre-installed, well, the camera app is from third-party though. Other apps you would just download straight from Play Store instead. Even though this phone is not under Android One programme, nonetheless, ASUS is promising timely OS and security updates as it requires less customisation. Not to mention the benefit of smoother operations from a lighter build of Android, the overall user experience has been very positive so far.
