User Experience
The Edifier MP120 is encased in a metallic chassis which ultimately contributes to the dense and robust feel when you’re handling the speaker. The smooth sand-blasted finishing on the surface further enhances the aesthetics.
Minimalist design at the back.
Apart from Bluetooth, the speaker also supports the 3.5mm auxiliary input as well as a micro SD card slot. The micro USB is used for charging the internal battery.
Unfortunately, the 3.5mm auxiliary cable is not included in the package.
The control buttons are located on the right side of the speaker:

- Power – Short press (Change mode)
- Power – Double press (Battery level)
- Volume Up – Short press (Volume up)
- Volume Up – Long press (Next track)
- Volume Down – Short press (Volume down)
- Volume Down – Long press (Previous track)

The LED underneath the power button will display the speaker modes based on its colour:
- Blue (short blink) – Bluetooth mode
- Green (short blink) – AUX mode
- Red (short blink) – microSD mode

While the rubber feet might seem small, but it serves its purpose well at managing the vibration.
The speaker grille at the front is precision CNC milled and houses two 1.5-inch full-range drivers at 4W + 4W RMS configuration as well as a passive radiator for that clean lows. The audio experience is remarkable for a speaker of this size. It is loud and you can easily fill up a small room without having any issues of distortion or unclear voices.
As for the battery life, a single full charge of the 2,200 mAh battery can provide up to 19 hours of music playback over Bluetooth. Your mileage varies according to the modes and volume.
Final Words
I am genuinely surprised by the sound quality produced by this little portable speaker. I’ve shown it to my friends and colleagues in the office and they all had the same first impression – that is a very good sounding “power bank” looking speaker. Yep, they all thought it is a power bank until I played some music on it. It is low profile and easy to pack. For the official retail price of RM259, it may seem a little bit off-putting at first but once you go around Lazada or Shopee, you can easily find promotions at prices around RM149 or lower.
