User Experience
After releasing various types of earbuds and headphones, the W295BT Plus takes on the ear hook design and makes it a sport optimised pair of wireless earphones. Not to say that you can’t wear any other type earphones while you hit the gym, just that there is a couple of key design that will actually improve your music experience during the intense workout session. For one is the ear hook that will keep the earpiece in place. For two is the IPX7 rating for water-resistant. Those are pretty neat features which you can also find it on other more expensive sports earphones as well.
The sound quality is so remarkable for a pair of sports-centric Bluetooth earphones. The sound profile is leaning more towards the lower spectrum for that punchier bass. My best guess it is the better-suited music profile for high-adrenaline activities. The mids sound a little muted and dull, so if you emphasis a lot on the vocals, perhaps tuning the equaliser will help on that. However, upon comparing it with my other sports-oriented earphones, the SOL REPUBLIC Relays Sport Wireless, the Edifier W295BT Plus has more neutrality in the sound profile.
Personally, I’ve been using the W295BT Plus for my short runs and those over-the-ear hooks are the best feature that we actually needed on a pair of sports earphones. Compared to winged earbuds, this feels more secure and feels less “weighty”, even though they might be a little bit hassle to put on. On the other hand, my only complaint about the W295BT Plus is the lack of a cable tie to keep the excess cable from dangling at the back of your neck.
Battery Life
Edifier promises 10 hours of music playback over a single full charge. If you’re using the earphones like 1 hour or 2 hours per day, you can easily accumulate about 12 hours of total usage. That is roughly single charge per week or fortnight depending on your rate of use.
Charging is done through the micro USB port on the inline controller.
Final Words
All in all, the Edifier W295BT Plus is an excellent earphone for your daily gym routine or outdoor activities. The metal ear hook keeps the earphones in place without exerting extra pressure in your ear canal. While there are plenty of sports earphones opted for an extreme bass-heavy sound profile, Edifier held back and offer something that is more neutral. At the price of RM199, that is considerably more affordable than many other good quality sports earphones available out there.
