Review – OPPO F5: For the Selfie Lovers
Software & Features
ColorOS 3.2
The OPPO F5 runs the latest version of their proprietary Android skin – ColorOS 3.2. While the skin may be the latest version, underneath it still runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, not Oreo, sadly. Android 8 Oreo update probably won’t be happening anytime soon judging from OPPO’s update track record.
Back then when I reviewed the OPPO R9s and OPPO R9s Plus, I stated that ColorOS is more like a skin that designed to allow iOS users to quickly get used to the Android operating system. Since most of the user experience is meticulously cloned from the iOS.
Now, even OPPO has moved the quick settings from the drop-down menu and move it to the bottom. This means swipe from the top will only show notification and you need to swipe from the bottom to get access to the quick settings. Not cool OPPO, not cool.
Face Unlock
OPPO is proud to boast about their new improved Face Unlock feature where it could unlock a phone faster than ever. I personally tested the feature and the end result is simply amazing. They did not lie that the face unlock is extremely responsive.
Face Unlock become a thing once again thanks to iPhone X’s Face ID. While OPPO’s Face Unlock feature is smart enough to differentiate between my face and a screen, but I still have doubts about face recognition technology especially when it is used in the authentication process. Our technology is simply not there yet. As reported a few days ago, even the much powerful Face ID has a long way to go.
Then again, since OPPO’s Face Unlock feature is only used for phone unlocking and it is quick, I don’t see any reason for not trying it out.
