Samsung Galaxy AI is Coming
We all know the artificial intelligence wave is coming, back in November, Samsung caught us by surprise by releasing an article about showing a glimpse into the era of Samsung Galaxy AI. It was a teaser piece that mentioned a few important aspects such as it will be part of the Samsung Galaxy experience and it will be powered by both on-device AI as well as cloud-based AI.
Last week we had an opportunity to sit down and have an open discussion with Steve Chan, Senior Product Manager at Samsung Electronics Malaysia (SME) to learn more about Samsung Galaxy AI and how it will affect the user experience.
Samsung Galaxy AI is not new
Unlike any corporation that tries to jump on the latest bandwagon by throwing new jargon on a trendy subject. As we have seen how Samsung has been developing various AI features on the Galaxy platform, especially for the camera which helps users take better images, this Galaxy AI platform allows Samsung to unify all their in-house AI-related developments under the same umbrella.
The main objective is to provide the best user experience by harvesting machine intelligence’s endless capabilities. For instance better camera capabilities and instant audio transcription/translation.
What I’m really hoping to see is an upgrade to the Samsung Smart Things as well as Routines, it would be mindblowing if both of these platforms adopt a more powerful AI platform.
This is not an OpenAI/ChatGPT Competitor
Samsung has repeatedly emphasised that the Samsung Galaxy AI will not be a competitor for the existing AI services such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Google Bard. The main purpose of Galaxy AI is to provide an open platform that utilizes all sort of services that brings value to the user.
Now, this may sound rather ambitious, considering the openness of this project and how flexible it is to adopt different AI models. This remained a question that we shall learn more about during the keynote.
Samsung Galaxy AI will be launching in early 2024 on next-gen Galaxy mobile devices
The next-gen Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphone will be the platform for Samsung Galaxy AI to flourish. So be prepared for a keynote filled with AI-focused features and developments. Steve also shared how the shareholders are amazed by what they see on the early engineering samples.
Let’s be clear about this matter before you take my word for it. Samsung wanted to end the classic perception of a customer whereby every new iteration of a smartphone means ONLY new hardware and new design. What comes next is how the new hardware will enable phones to do more.
