It is that time of the year for the Fan Edition (FE) devices. This time, we are getting a slew of updated devices from the Galaxy ecosystem that includes the S23 FE, Buds FE and Tab S9 FE. Today we will unbox the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S23 FE in Mint colourway.
FE stands for ‘Fan Edition’. Simply put, when you speak, we listen. For each generation of the flagship Galaxy S series, we take on your feedback and produce a device packed with all of your favourite features.

Around the Phone
The S23 FE is almost identically shaped as the S23+, which is a norm for FE devices. That just goes to show how the majority of the consumers in the market still prefer a larger phone.
Samsung has settled down with this current back cover design. It is shared across the Galaxy S and Galaxy A series.
The aluminium metal chassis has a sand-blasted finish. This is my preferred metal surface treatment as it does not attract fingerprints.
The camera bump at the back makes it impossible to lay down the phone flat on a surface unless you use a phone case.
Okay, I know what you’re trying to say – the obvious black bezels. Come on, it is not as obtrusive as it may seem. Besides, Samsung is still using their high-end Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that has a peak brightness of 1450 nits.
The hole punch at the top houses a 10MP front-facing camera.
The cutout size is just right as it blends into the content. Powering the device is the Samsung Exynos 2200 (global variant) or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (USA). While the Exynos chip did get a lot of bad publicity due to its lacklustre performance. However, that doesn’t mean this is a bad chip at all. We shall discuss this further as we test the device with more games.
The rear primary camera has been upgraded from a 12MP to a 50MP sensor with a slightly wider 24mm lens. On the other hand, the ultrawide and telephoto cameras remained at 12MP and 8MP respectively.
As always, you won’t be disappointed by Samsung’s camera app which is both functional and intuitive. I am delighted to tell you about the pleasant first impression with the camera.
First Impression
So what do you think about this new iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE? In terms of handling, my first impression tells me that this phone feels extremely close to its bigger brother, the S23+. For Samsung OneUI users who are looking for a more affordable alternative, this is something to consider about. However, we need to look deeper into this as the phone is priced at RM2999 (128GB) and RM3299 (256GB). Not exactly near to what the consumers are looking for.
That we shall answer in the full review which is coming soon.
