Samsung Galaxy S24 FE early look – Essentially an S24+ with mild tone down
3 min readA couple of days ago we were at the private event where we got to test out the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 FE smartphone as well as the Galaxy Tab S10 series tablets.
Since they literally just gave us a couple of hours to do everything from hands-on to materials gathering, we’ll just cover as much as we can, and stay tuned to our review if you want to know it fully in and out.
Let’s take a look at the phone first. Since it has been “leaked” for quite some time now and we already knew that it is made to resemble the Galaxy S24+ from the get-go but they still have to shake things up a bit so that they aren’t exactly carbon copies – for example, the thickness is at 8mm which is 0.3mm thicker than the S24+.
Other than that, to kind of keep the price in check, they are using a standard aluminum frame instead of the Armored Aluminum. But they aren’t skimping on the important part though – the use of Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and the back of the phone, which is nice to make the phone durable, as well as the IP68 rating. This might make the black extremely glossy for one’s taste but nothing unfixable with a simple phone case.
The screen is nice too because this is a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X screen with 2340×1080 pixel resolution at 120Hz but with a slimmer 1.99mm bezel.
As for the chipset, the new Exynos 2400e essentially is just a “100Mhz slower” Exynos 2400 in terms of the highest performance core’s clock speed. Other than that, it is just the same.
Color-wise, Malaysia will be getting a total of 4 – Blue, Grey, Mint, Graphite – no online exclusives, just these four, close case. Memory capacity starts from 256GB and tops out at 512GB. We also have a slightly larger battery at 4,700mAh – a 200mAh increase from the previous gen.
One upgrade it got is the vapor chamber size, which increased by 11% compared to the S23 FE. Once we get to test it out then we’ll know whether this is tangible or not.
The cameras are the same as last year so expect it just maintain its photographic performance here but with the new SoC, let’s hope there are improvements even if it is marginal.
Unlike Apple’s recent take on “shipping AI features later this year” even for their latest devices, Samsung says “Hold my beer” and announced that all Galaxy AI features are accessible out of the box – no delays and waiting.
And as expected, the Galaxy S24 FE will be getting 7 generations of Android upgrades and 7 years of security patches but will the upcoming Android 15 start the ticking time schedule? Probably yes, probably because of corporate reasons.
