Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Unboxing & First Impression

It is finally here, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. In light of Samsung’s commitment to the Galaxy AI, this could be a pivotal moment for the smartphone industry as we move away from hardware-focused launches into software and experiential-centred announcements. With the announcement of 7 years of update support and 7 generations of major Android version updates, does that mean Samsung is indirectly encouraging us to not upgrade every year? I guess so.

After trying out the Galaxy S24 Ultra for a few hours, I will share my thoughts about the phone before we proceed with detailed testing and reviews.

Tried & Tested Design

Unsurprisingly, we have reached the peak of smartphone design as major brands are settling down with their flagship identity. I think this is not an issue at all. Instead of trying to impress a certain group of uneducated masses with “new designs”, the resources are better off spent on improving the features and functions that matter the most to the actual users.

People must understand that the smartphone industry has entered its maturity stage and we don’t need that wild-west style of changing design every few months.

Titanium Chassis

Of course, there are still a couple of minor changes made to the phone even though the overall design might look similar to its outgoing model. First of all the chassis is now made of Titanium instead of Aluminium.

Despite that titanium is not exactly new to the smartphone industry, however, it has not been widely adopted previously as there were always cheaper alternatives. One of the major benefits of using titanium is weight reduction without sacrificing the chassis robustness.

Flat Display

Samsung is the first ever company to put a curved display on a smartphone since the Galaxy Note Edge. After years of having it as a flagship feature, the Galaxy S24 series becomes the first ever to bid this feature goodbye. I will not be missing it, especially how it discourages users from using a tempered glass screen protector. Besides, having a flat display also will keep the display consistency in check.

More about Galaxy AI Coming Soon

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a familiar device whereby the South Korean company committed itself to revolutionising the next big thing by introducing a slew of artificial intelligence features on the phone. I am sure that plenty of users are still sceptical about AI at the moment. However, based on what I have seen in action, I think this is an unavoidable change.
