Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Series Early Hands On – Better Than Before
3 min readThe hyped announcement of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 5G and Z Fold4 5G are definitely the highlights of the Galaxy Unpacked live stream but we’re gonna touch on the new Galaxy Watch5 smartwatches for a bit.
For one, the clarity of the screen feels a bit better and the band is nicer to touch. While I don’t expect them to go wild with the hardware design, Samsung did explain that they are focusing on delivering software features instead which is correct.
The one-chip-do-all module, BioActive Sensor, has been given much-needed leverage in terms of accuracy because it now can detect more thanks to the increased surface area and better direct contact. The enhancement also comes through in the form of expanded tracking capabilities including Body Composition, a measurement tool that provides a complete snapshot of the user’s overall health to advise a tailored plan for workouts, and Sleep Scores that monitor sleeping parameters on a whole new level.
And as expected, the Watch5 smartwatch will also be the hub for SmartThings to interconnect and be controlled via simple touch on your wrist. Additionally, Samsung also managed to pack a bigger battery and the OS, One UI Watch4.5, has optimized the typing interface to allow a much more user-friendly and intuitive experience.
On the other hand, Samsung is pitting the idea of the Galaxy Watch5 Pro as an outdoor-focused option by building everything the Watch5 has plus additional features that make active lifestyles better. Off the race, the premium materials used to build the device are already better as it features enhanced Sapphire Crystal that offers superior wear and tear resistance while the titanium casing protects the display with ease.
It also packs a larger battery to reduce the need for frequent charging while the addition of GPX is a first for Galaxy Watch. You may also record and share your hiking experience and data with fellow trail-lovers via the Samsung Health app with the Route Workout function. Need more hiking-specific features? Make sure to take advantage of Track Back to make your way back to your starting point or keep your eyes on the path with Turn-by-Turn directions.
To complement the sweaty activities, the all-new D-Buckle Sport Band is a sleek and clean fit with rugged toughness.
As there’s much to be talked until we are able to get one for long term review, it’s going to be only paper specs and overview for now.
