Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro Review: Sleek & Fashionable Fitness Tracker

Booting up the watch, went through a simple setup process and we are ready to go in no time.
At the front is a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 216 x 432 pixels resolution. Don’t let the relatively low numbered resolution fool you because, at 1.5-inch, it has 322 PPIÂ density. Text & images look sharp on it and the colour is vivid.
Then again, the Gear Fit2 Pro does not come with any ambient light sensor, presumably to increase the battery life. Hence you have to manually adjust the screen brightness according to your viewing environment. I personally find it not to be an issue because it works surprisingly well even under bright sunlight condition.
Besides, the curved display also allows the band to be designed in a curvier way. Apart from touch input, there are 2 buttons on the side – smaller “Home/Power” button and larger “Back” button.
The Home button has multiple functions, for instance, a short press will bring the interface back to home or Settings page. A long press, of course, will prompt the watch to shut down. The “Back” button is pretty self-explanatory.
Now, here’s something I find interesting – the navigation. Since the watch has a dedicated “Back” button, there is no touch gesture for Back action. That means you have to utilize both touch screen and the physical button in order to navigate through the content. Wouldn’t it be more intuitive if Samsung just used Swipe-to-Right as the Back action?
Underneath the watch is where you’ll find the charging contact point as well as the heart rate sensor. Besides, the Gear Fit2 Pro is also 5 ATM (atmospheric rating) water resistance for aquatic sports. Just don’t take it for a scuba dive.
In Malaysia, there are 2 different official strap design you can choose. The review unit I received has striped design in full black. Our friend over at Nasi Lemak Tech has received the Gear Fit2 Pro in red/black colour scheme and faceted wristband.
The strap has a traditional loop design with a plastic buckle. Strap material was not highlighted in any available document, however, from our usage, it felt very similar to real rubber instead of polycarbonate.
The inner strap has a wavy surface to improve the breathability.
The excess band is securely hold down with a small notch underneath the ring hoop. Small detail, but it enhances the overall experience of wearing the fitness tracker.
The watch band can be easily removed for replacement without requiring any tools. Official replacement straps are still very limited, but you can find plenty of third-party ones online.
Putting on the Gear Fit2 Pro
The curved display makes the watch looks futuristic.
I had a small wrist so even when I buckle to the tightest end, there is still room for the watch to wiggle around.
