Samsung The Sero: Is this the TV of the Future?
2 min readSamsung first showcased The Sero TV back in IFA 2019 and just early this year, Malaysians finally has the opportunity to own it. ICYMI, The Sero means “vertical” in Korean and that pretty much sums up the main feature of the product – the ability to turn the display to vertical mode. Unlike The Serif which we recently reviewed, The Sero put more emphasize on the new digital lifestyle. The 43-inch 4K QLED panel can be rotated 90-degrees from the conventional horizontal mode to vertical mode.
Why? I’m glad you asked. No matter how cancerous vertical videos are, this prevailing video creation method has no sign of dying especially with the booming TikTok video trend. I can see how youngsters and the hip generation would get excited over this TV’s ability to turn into vertical mode. By all means, you simply treat this TV as a humongous smartphone or tablet.
The QLED panel is amazing for content consumption. The colours are vivid and the blacks are contrasty. I could not have asked more for it except for the rather small 43-inch screen real estate. Perhaps Samsung is still testing grounds with this form factor, hence the only size selection. The 60W 4.1 channel speakers on this TV is definitely sufficient to use as a standalone entertainment console. Perfect for those who don’t want to get a separate sound system.
Nonetheless, the software experience has been consistent as it is powered by TizenOS. Pairing the TV with a Samsung phone will enable the auto-switch between the vertical and horizontal mode. Other brands phone still can mirror their screen to the TV, just that the user will have to use the TV’s remote to trigger the screen rotation.
The Sero is now available for RM6,999 at authorised Samsung dealers. In conjunction with the on-going National Day Promotion, users will be receiving a free Samsung Air Purifier worth RM999.
