Here’s what you need to know about Samsung’s announcement at the Unbox and Discover 2023 keynote
3 min readSamsung’s latest livestream concluded 2 days ago and there’s a series of announcements or rather teasers/commitments they will be bringing this year. Let’s go through them in a quick manner.
The headline begins with a refocus of the SmartThings family where Samsung has come up with 5 different key aspects that a SmartThings product should do:
- Instant Connection – One-click setup when setting up a new SmartThings device
- Automated Connection – Set up connections between SmartThings devices automatically when a new one has been added to the circle
- Hub Everywhere – Most SmartThings product comes with an IoT hub that acts as a dashboard
- Expansive Compatibility – Thanks to Home Connectivity Alliance and the MATTER standards, a wide variety of 3rd party devices works with SmartThings
- Security – New Samsung Knox Vault encrypts all local data thanks to CC EAL 6+ certification
Catching up that part is the sustainability topic with ongoing and WIP achievements such as TVs, monitors, and remote controls made with at least 50% recycled materials in addition to sustainable packaging in shipping boxes. They also tried to turn CO2 into recycled materials, using fewer materials, and upcycling products and packaging. In short, they are taking a rather innovative path this year without compromising on what they’re already doing.
