Smart Education Expo Showcases Innovative Classroom Solutions
3 min readSmart Education Expo as part of the annual Smart City Summit & Expo, is advocating innovative learning and effective technology applications in the education industry. EdTech companies and start-ups take the opportunity to showcase their latest educational technology applications. Here are a number of interesting solutions.
Online Classrooms
AVer Classroom Solutions
AVer Information’s high-definition capture cards and solutions may be popular among live streamers, however, little did you know that the company is also heavily invested into smart education systems. Over at the Smart Education Expo booth, AVer Information is showcasing an intelligent classroom system.
This high definition camera with tracker enables teachers and lecturers to pre-record or live stream lessons directly to the student’s Internet-connected devices. As we mentioned the HD camera comes equipped with a facial tracker, this allows the lecturer to conduct an online video class without having the need of a camera operator.
Besides, the Interactive Flat Panel (IFP) that is powered by the Android operating system further simplifies the overall interaction with the teaching material and annotation. If and IFP is overkill for some institutions, the USB powered visualisers are a good alternative.
Online Tutor
The advancement of high bandwidth Internet leads to the increased demand for the remote classroom. HiTutor is an online service that bridges tutors and students through the Internet. The webcam conference-call enables a one-to-one classroom session. What we find fascinating is the facial and movement recognition application built-into the tutor’s system that helps the tutor to gauge the student’s understanding level.
Smart Teaching Materials
Experiment Simulations & VR
There is no way to deny that experiments are the fastest way for one to understand a concept or theory, however, sometimes visualisations would help students to grasp the concept better. JTQC Digital Education’s addresses this demand with an experiment simulation software with on-the-fly variable adjustment as well as information overlays.
VR is also being used for showing students of 3D-modeled subjects and experiments as showcased by various companies over at the expo.
Webduino
Students of this generation are best to equip themselves with at least the essential understanding of problem-solving via programming. While Arduino is one of the easiest hardware programmings, some might still find it intimidating and complicated. What Webduino brings to the table is a web-based block programming that is easy to pick up even if one has never touched programming before.
Through the straight-forward user interface, students can create micro-programs on the web application. Then the program would be sent to the development boards through WiFi before being executed.
