Sony has just unveiled its brand-new FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS 800mm super-telephoto zoom G Lens as well as FE 16mm F1.8 G premium G Lens; let’s take a look at both of them.
FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS
The FE 400-800mm F6.3-8 G OSS is a versatile super-telephoto zoom lens, extending up to 1600mm with a 2x teleconverter. Its inner-zoom mechanism maintains balance for stable handling, while a smooth zoom ring ensures precise adjustments. With an 11-blade circular aperture, the lens delivers beautiful bokeh, while six ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting for stunning image quality.
For handheld or tripod shooting, the Optical SteadyShot stabilizes images, with enhanced performance on Alpha cameras with in-body stabilization. The tripod mount foot also allows quick horizontal or vertical rotation.
Built for reliability, the lens features dust and moisture resistance, a fluorine-coated front element, and three customizable focus hold buttons for easy access. A full-time DMF mode enables instant manual focus adjustments, and the redesigned lens hood includes a lock button and filter opening for added convenience.
FE 16mm F1.8 G
The FE 16mm F1.8 G is a compact, ultra-wide-angle lens designed for high-resolution imagery and stunning bokeh. Its two AA (Advanced Aspherical) elements ensure sharpness across all apertures, while one Super ED and three ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting. With an F1.8 aperture and 11-blade circular diaphragm, the lens produces beautiful background blur. It also excels in close-up photography, offering a minimum focus distance of 0.15m (AF) and 0.13m (MF) with up to 0.30x magnification.
Despite its compact size (73.8 x 75mm) and lightweight build (304g), the lens delivers outstanding performance, making it ideal for landscapes, architecture, astrophotography, and more. Equipped with two XD linear motors, the lens provides fast, precise, and quiet autofocus, ensuring smooth tracking of fast-moving subjects.
The lens also features comprehensive manual controls, including a focus ring, focus hold button, aperture ring with click ON/OFF switch, and a focus mode switch for seamless AF/MF transitions. Dust and moisture resistance, along with a fluorine-coated front element, enhance durability and reliability for professional use.
