Sony Introduces the 400mm F2.8 G Master Prime Lens (SEL400F28GM)
Sony has announced the FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS large aperture super-telephoto prime lens (SEL400F28GM) will be joining the E-mount line up.
SEL400F28GM
Combining 400mm and f/2.8 aperture is enough to tell us that this is the ideal lens for professional sports, wildlife and nature photographers. Along with the G Master badge, it should produce an incredible level of image quality and detail with outstanding contrast and bokeh from the 11-blade circular aperture mechanism.
The design itself makes it the lightest 400mm f/2.8 prime at 2897grams. It is portable for handheld and by shifting the weight to the back, it makes the lens a lot easier to handle especially in panning or when mounted on a monopod. The lens also features two high-speed extreme dynamic linear motors that power the focusing group. In other words, quick, accurate and quiet autofocus performance.
For professional sports and wildlife photography use, the lens is capable of withstanding the harsh conditions with the durable magnesium alloy build. The front element is coated with fluorine to resist dirt and fingerprints. There are also plenty of controls on the lens including the Full-Time DMF switch to immediately engage manual focus at any point, customisable focus hold buttons in four different locations on the lens barrel.
The lens also features built-in optical stabilisation for dynamic sports action and three different mode settings, including a brand new Mode 36 setting with an advanced algorithm that ensures easier framing when following moving subjects. Featuring a drop-in filter slow that accepts 40.5mm ND and other filter types.
Pricing & Availability
There’s no clear pricing for the lens as it is built to order. The new FE 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS will be available in selected Asia Pacific countries in September 2018. Local availability to be updated.
