Sony reveals all-new OCELLUS camera tracking system for enhanced spatial content creation in AR and virtual production

Sony has debuted its latest OCELLUS (ASR-CT1) camera tracking system, crafted to streamline augmented reality (AR) and virtual production in broadcast and cinema with marker-free tracking powered by multiple sensors.
Optimized for virtual production like In-Camera VFX and AR, the OCELLUS features a sensor unit, a processing box, and three lens encoders, and is compatible with Sony Cinema Line cameras, system cameras, and even non-Sony cameras.
Packing five image sensors and the brand’s Visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology, the system generates a reference map for reliable, marker-free tracking in both indoor and outdoor settings.
Furthermore, when paired with Sony cameras, metadata on focus, iris, and zoom values can be extracted via the camera’s SDI output and transmitted in real-time to external devices through an Ethernet cable. Also, the OCELLUS records tracking data, camera/lens metadata, timecode, and file names for seamless post-production integration.
