Taipei and Kaohsiung Lead Taiwan’s AI-Powered Smart City Revolution at SCSE 2025

The Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE) 2025 is poised to be a landmark event, firmly establishing Taiwan at the forefront of AI-driven smart city transformation. Hosted collaboratively by the Taipei and Kaohsiung City Governments, this 12th edition is set to welcome an impressive 35,000 professionals and buyers – a significant 40% surge in participation. Alongside this robust attendance, the expo will feature 2,500 international partners and 560 leading exhibitors.

Taipei City, under the vision of Mayor Chiang Wan-an, will prominently showcase its “T.A.I.P.E.I.” AI Strategy. This comprehensive initiative focuses on actively promoting AI development across sectors like logistics, smart mobility, and citizen services. Furthermore, Taipei is prioritizing AI governance and ethical regulation, establishing crucial policies to ensure the secure and responsible implementation of artificial intelligence. A key aspect will be the enhancement of AI in public services, with demonstrations of AI-driven solutions transforming urban planning, emergency response, and healthcare. Mayor Chiang Wan-an emphasized Taipei’s commitment to fostering business exchange and ethical AI adoption, stating, “Through AI governance and smart technology, we are setting a global benchmark for ethical AI adoption and digital urban transformation.” Notable examples include Taipei’s enhanced Citizen Helpline (199) now powered by AI for improved efficiency and the Fire Department’s AI system optimizing emergency response.

Meanwhile, Kaohsiung City Government, under the leadership of Deputy Mayor Charles Lin, will champion Taiwan’s next-generation AI urban development through its innovative Kaohsiung Intelligent Lighthouse Program. This model smart city initiative places a strong emphasis on sustainability, robust AI governance, and cutting-edge digital innovation. Speaking at SCSE 2025, Deputy Mayor Lin outlined five key elements driving Kaohsiung’s transformative journey: a Net-Zero Initiative focused on real-world carbon neutrality projects, deep AI & ICT Integration in collaboration with industry giants like NVIDIA, the ambitious Kaohsiung AI Upgrade 2.0 master project targeting infrastructure and sustainability, strengthened Academia & Innovation partnerships, and a focus on Data Security & Cloud Transformation for intelligent municipal governance. Deputy Mayor Lin asserted, “Kaohsiung is leading the way with AI-driven sustainability, digital twins, and intelligent municipal governance. Through intercity collaboration and strategic partnerships, we are building a future-proof, data-driven urban model for global cities to follow.”

SCSE 2025, featuring 360 high-level forums, will serve as a vital platform to witness Taiwan’s cutting-edge AI applications across various urban domains, from intelligent infrastructure to rapid emergency response systems and advanced healthcare solutions. The collaborative leadership of Taipei and Kaohsiung underscores Taiwan’s national commitment to leveraging AI as a cornerstone of its smart city evolution, positioning the nation as a key player on the global stage of intelligent urban development.
