Unboxing & First Impression – Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

Following the successful launch of the Galaxy S series, Samsung is keeping with the momentum with the launch of the updated Galaxy A series. Today what we have in the studio is the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G that was announced two weeks ago.

Here’s a quick unboxing and first impression before we set up the phone and experience it ourselves.

We manage to get our hands on the Awesome Blue Galaxy A53.

And so it happened, Samsung will not be including a charger in the Galaxy A series in the effort to reduce e-waste.

The box is now slimmer and contains just the essentials.

Basically what you get in the box is the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, the USB-C to C cable and some paperwork.

Out of the protective sleeve, is the Awesome Blue Galaxy A53 5G. Frankly speaking, I like how Samsung has taken a tamer approach to the choices of colour this year.

Even though the back panel is made out of plastic, however, don’t let the material deceive you as it feels amazing to hold. While the A52S feels like 200-grit sandpaper, this feels like 100-grit instead. Honestly, I can use this phone without a case.

Remember to peel off the transparent protective stickers around the metal frame.

The camera module is slightly raised and the back panel is slowly curved upwards to match the height.

The camera module is consists of a 4-camera configuration:

  • 48MP Standard camera
  • 12MP Ultra-wide camera
  • 5MP Macro camera
  • 5MP Depth sensor

The hybrid dual SIM tray can either support two SIM cards or a SIM + micro SD card. Yes, expandable storage is still available on the Galaxy A series.

While we’re waiting for the device to complete the update, let’s take a look at the front-facing camera. The hole punch on the screen houses a 32MP sensor for selfies and video calls. This is one of the better looking hole punch we have seen from Samsung.

Meanwhile at the front is a 6.5-inch PLS LCD display with 1080×2400 pixel resolution. It supports up to a 120Hz high refresh rate for that silky smooth animation.

That’s it for now as I get the phone ready for my everyday usage. In short, I like how Samsung improved the design without making any drastic changes to the phone. Frankly speaking, why change when it is good right? Stay tuned for the full review that will be published within two weeks’ time.
