unifi basic Announced: RM79 for 30Mbps with 60GB Quota
2 min readTM today has officially announced the details for the upcoming entry-level unifi basic plan. As promised previously, the new plan will be priced under RM100 with 30Mbps speed. However, there’s a catch or a couple of it.
unifi basic
Since TM will be upgrading the current unifi lite (10Mbps), advance (30Mbps) and pro (100Mbps) plans to 100Mbps, 300Mbps and 800Mbps respectively, while maintaining the current price. Naturally, the new unifi basic will come with 30Mbps speed and TM will also be dropping HyppTV and telephone service out of the package. So, if we put things into perspective:
- RM329 – unifi pro (800Mbps + HyppTV + IP Telephone)
- RM179 – unifi advance (300Mbps + HyppTV + IP Telephone)
- RM129 – unifi lite (100Mbps + HyppTV + IP Telephone)
- RM79 – unifi basic (30Mbps + 60GB Quota)
No HyppTV and IP Telephone
The unifi basic package is meant to be a standalone Internet-only plan. So it won’t come with HyppTV nor IP telephone service. This is actually a great news for a most of the current unifi subscribers because right now, users are forced into taking the aforementioned service even if they don’t actually need it.
Monthly 60GB Quota
The big catch here is the monthly 60GB data cap for the package. Since the previous unifi packages do not explicitly mention about the data cap, this means TM is pretty serious about implementing it. Besides, 60GB is nothing when you have high-speed internet access. On top of that, some customers might even subscribe to the package without knowing about the quota which in turn would result in an unpleasant customer experience.
Fun fact: You will hit the 60GB quota in 4 hours 30 minutes if you download at max 30Mbps speed.
Household income less than RM4500
The plan is made for households with income less than RM4500. For the time being, application for the plan will be done exclusively through online over at unifi website. In that case, we can safely assume that the registration process would require customers submitting something similar with payslip to verify their income status.
