Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 announced: 6-inch 18:9 Display, Ceramic Unibody and Snapdragon 835
2 min readXiaomi is back with the Mi MIX 2, less than a year after the announcement of the Xiaomi Mi MIX. The second generation of the Xiaomi’s “concept” phone is back with the ceramic unibody, 18:9 display ratio and Snapdragon 835.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2
The previous generation while received a lot of praise for the near-bezel-less design, it has also garnered quite a number of dissatisfactions with the large chin. Therefore, Xiaomi manages to reduce the surface area of the chin and it looks a lot better than before.
Xiaomi relocates the piezoelectric speaker and uses it for the loud speaker. The earpiece has returned to the conventional membrane speaker and sound guiding tube.
The 6-inch display at the front sports the latest 18:9 display ratio. This results in a phone that fits in the hands without being too wide.
The rear chassis of the Mi MIX 2 is made of ceramic and the corners are rounded and curved. It blends beautifully into the aluminium alloy frame.
Once again, Xiaomi aims to top the support of the network with the Mi MIX 2, coming at 6 modes and 43 bands. Seems Xiaomi is hoping the owner of the Mi MIX 2 would travel around the world since the phone will not be available for sale outside of China.
The camera has pretty much the same as the Mi 6, minus the dual camera setup. Just like last year, the camera rim is a layer of 24K gold coating.
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will be available in China starting 15th September:
- 256GB: RMB 3999 (~RM 2570)
- 128GB: RMB 3599 (~RM2313)
- 64GB: RMB 3299 (~RM2120)
Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Special Edition
But wait, there’s more – Special Edition of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2.
Instead of a mixture of aluminium alloy frame and ceramic back, the Special Edition comes with a FULL ceramic unibody.
The ceramic is specially treated and beautifully wraps around the phone. It is a complex process that takes 7 days just to complete 1 unit.
The Special Edition comes with 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage configuration and will be priced at RMB 4699 (~RM 3020). However, the availability date is expected to be sometime around November instead.
So, what do you think of Xiaomi’s latest concept phone that actually goes on sale?
